This congenital condition, often seen in newborns, presents symptoms such as frequent vomiting, protein intolerance, metabolic acidosis, feeding difficulties, hypotonia (low muscle tone), developmental delays, and loss of appetite. In some cases, it may also cause hyperactivity, hyperkinesia, severe drowsiness, and delayed mental and physical development.

    Valsartan, an antihypertensive drug, selectively blocks the angiotensin II receptor. Developed by Novartis and sold as Diovan, this orally active tetrazole derivative has a bioavailability of about 23%. It appears as a white or nearly white hygroscopic powder and must be stored in airtight containers, protected from light and heat. Valsartan is available in film-coated tablets (40, 80, 160, or 320 mg), capsules (80 or 160 mg), and combination tablets with hydrochlorothiazide or amlodipine.
