Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is a type of positive airway pressure that maintains constant pressure in the airways throughout breathing cycles (inspiration/inhalation and expiration). CPAP preserves Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP), reduces atelectasis, increases the alveolus' surface area, improves V/Q matching, and improves oxygenation. PEEP is delivered using CPAP, maintaining the set pressure throughout a breathing cycle.
In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), CPAP may be used to treat preterm newborns whose lungs have not yet fully matured and who may be suffering from respiratory distress syndrome due to a lack of surfactant. A CPAP machine also has straps that hold the mask in place, a hose or tube that links the mask to the machine's motor, a motor that blasts air into the tube, and an air filter that purifies the air entering the nose.
In March 2020, the USFDA suggested that CPAP devices may be used to support patients affected by COVID-19. CPAP also has been suggested for treating acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure in children, however, due to a limited number of clinical studies, the effectiveness and safety of this approach to providing respiratory support are not clear.

Market Dynamics
The growing prevalence of hypertension, depression, diabetes, and heart disorders increases the risk of developing Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) among individuals. This, in conjunction with the availability of favorable reimbursement policies, represents key factors leading to the demand for PAP devices across the globe. The increasing prevalence of sleep apnea and respiratory disorders is also notably boosting the economic growth of CPAP devices. However, factors such as the high cost of CPAP devices may impede the market growth prospects of this industry.
Necessary modifications required to convert CPAP devices to treat respiratory insufficiency have been designed to minimize aerosolization. This is a factor playing an essential role in further augmenting the revenue growth of the continuous positive airway pressure devices market. The high upfront cost of these devices and the various side-effects associated with long-term usage, could also potentially hinder the economic growth of the CPAP market.
